Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T E49 sunfire metallic [2009]
The Chrysler Valiant Charger was a muscle car produced by Chrysler Australia from 1971 to 1978. It was a short wheelbase two door coupe based on the Australian Chrysler Valiant sedan. Introduced with the Valiant VH model, it continued through the VJ & VK series up to the CL range, released in 1976. The best sales were in New Zealand, where they were also assembled. The combination of the powerful engine, light body and short wheelbase made them perfectly suited to New Zealand's winding mountainous roads.
The Valiant Charger VH model won the 1971 Australian Wheels Car of the Year Award.
The primary performance Chargers were in the VH range they were known as the R/T Chargers or factory racing cars. They were released in "street" or "race" configuratons, the E49 had the triple weber set up, this was a joint Chrysler/Weber developed triple carburettor induction system. All R/T cars ran the Australian developed 265 cui Hemi inline 6 cylinder engine. This engine produced remarkable torque on a 7 bearing configuration which enabled considerable HP development previously unobtained from 6 cylinder engines.
