When I had mine I saved all the articles about the car that I could find. All of them praised the exhaust sounds. The reason it sounded so good might be explained by this snippet from Sport & Compact Car's article from 1998:

"A lot of seat-of-the-pants experimenting was necessary to get the right V6 sound. According to SVT reps, an abandoned airport served as a temporary laboratory as the technicians swapped out custom exhausts until that perfect sound was produced."
