tariffs on all countries, the levels of which are dependent on the status of trade negotiations. And some are based on specific products, such as metal products (steel, aluminum, copper, etc) and on drugs, lumber and semiconductor and energy products. And the duty-free de minimus exemption is going away on August 29, so you'll either be charged some percentage of the declared value or a flat charge based on the reciprocal tariffs. So it appears that the coding will not be a way to get around tariffs as of August 29. So I'll not be buying any models from Europe thereafter What a farce.
Here's another decent explanation:
Summary of Tariffs as of August 4
What is not clear to me is the status of the duty-free de minimus exception for goods purchased while in Europe and brought back in one's personal luggage. My wife and I will be going on holiday to France with a couple of months, so we would like to have an answer to that. If the exception is still in place, there would be the possibility that I could buy in model in France from a local vendor at the VAT price, then apply for a VAT refund at the airport and carry home the model in my luggage. If I can't, then the whole issue is moot. "Fortunately", my wife bought her Louis Vuitton purse (pre-owned, on sale for 50% off, or "only" $1,200) when she was in France a few months ago! LOL
