#465530 Even before the blanket August 29th De Minimus exemption
Posted by TCL on Saturday Aug 16, 2025 at 04:54PM in response to #465490
for all countries was put into an executive order a Detroit company filed a lawsuit against its removal for imports from China. Here's a link to an article about that lawsuit: Link

If that case is won by the plaintiffs I'm guessing it would likely unravel the ending of the blanket exemption as well.

The article noted that the Tariff Act of 1930 put the $800 exemption in place. Now he thinks he can change a 95 year old law on a whim. He still hasn't learned (or just ignores) the founding principle that the legislative branch makes and changes the laws, not the executive branch. I think he tried to use stopping illegal drug shipments as one basis for ending the exemption for shipments from China, but I can't see how he can use that emergency justification for ending the exemption for imports from the rest of the world.
