And yes, I very much regret not keeping it. I have seen them occasionally on eBay and have considered buying one, but they are not cheap. I never drove an air cooled 911 but in the late 1990s I did spend several happy hours behind the wheel of a new 996. I also drove an early Boxster with the top down through a tunnel and the sound was intoxicating. One last thought on the IROC Porsches concerns a very nice book titled The IROC Porsches, written by Matt Stone with a forward by George Follmer. (published by Motorbooks). It's well done, in my opinion.
